I was a recent guest on the WISR “Let’s Talk” radio show. It was a lot of fun! We talked about social media and how it helps a business.
One thing I realized after our talk, is many small businesses don’t know the value of social media. They feel as though it is not necessary, or it won’t work for them.
The truth is, social media can help your business in so many ways.
Here are six ways it can help your business now:
It helps to build awareness.
Do you like to tell people about your business for free? Do you like to target an active audience from your mobile phone?
That’s the power of social media. You can reach a target audience with little to no effort (and cost). I am fascinated by the people I connect with on social media.
It’s all about the hashtags.
Hashtags are a way to classify and connect. Using hashtags helps you to categorize your content with like-minded individuals.
Plus, you can show your personality. For example, I often post about my miniature schnauzer Willie or a unique coffee mug. It might not be business specific but shows my personality and helps my audience relate.
It helps direct traffic to your website.
Websites are vital to a business, even if you’re not selling online. This is because people search to find basic information about a business. In fact, there are 3.5 billion searches per day.
Businesses often make the mistake of investing in a website but neglecting to also invest in social media. Social media helps get the most value out of your website; its like the guy on the street holding the sign saying, “come in, we’re open".

It boosts your Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
SEO is a trendy word. In short, it means the way search engines find you. The key to effective SEO is to produce relevant, authentic, and current content online.
There are multiple ways of doing this, i.e. blogging or publishing videos.
However, producing content is worth nothing unless people are reading/viewing it. How do you get people to read it? Social media!
Social media drives traffic.
It will naturally boost your SEO because your name will be active online and people will be clicking on your website. Over time, search engines will determine you as an authority and rank you higher in results.
It is a free marketing tool.
There are a lot of paid options on social media, but it costs nothing to get started. Plus, it’s a great way to test graphics, images, and content before you pay to play.
Having effective marketing means consistency. Consumers must continuously see your name and messaging in order to build trust. The average consumer must see something 19 times before they consider buying; a huge jump from seven.
Can your business afford to produce paid content 19 times before your prospects convert to customers?
